Since
Thanksgiving, we've focused more on getting things ready at home and haven’t
been working on the church renovations.
Other volunteers have been there and the project is progressing. We've harvested the last of the garden
vegetables and Stuart tilled the garden.
The soil looks dark and fluffy, much better than when we first started
the garden here 3 years ago.
The
weather has been warm for October and very sunny so we decided to go out
fishing with our inflatable boat. We
went to Jewel Lake one afternoon but didn't catch anything. Early this week, we went to Wilgress Lake and
Stuart caught a 14 inch trout. We were
the only ones out on the lake and it was beautiful.
On
Saturday and Sunday mornings last weekend, we volunteered to cook breakfast for
an annual Christian youth conference that is held in Grand Forks. We started at 6 a.m. on the first day and
made pancakes and sausages for 280 kids and chaperons. The volunteers were from our church and we
had worked with most of them at the breakfast last year. The second day we started later at 6:30 a.m.
and made French toast and ham plus a few more sausages and pancakes. Both meals were a success and we had a lot of
fun doing the work.
We
played our last pickleball games last week and have been working steadily this
week on our “to do” list. It’s always a
bit sad to put things away for the winter and I have been hanging on to the
blooming geraniums as long as possible.
So
we are heading south this coming Tuesday morning and will be busy over the next few
days getting everything packed. We plan
to spend 3 nights on the road and arrive in Surprise early on November 1. The countdown has begun.
