We
had a couple of days of frost this past week so we harvested all of the “above
ground” vegetables. The beets and
carrots are still in the ground and they will be fine there for a few more
weeks. This year, we used our new
chipper/shredder to shred the discarded garden plants to make mulch. Stuart calls it making salad but who would
want to eat this?
We
are drying the cayenne peppers to take south with us and we will pickle the
jalapenos as we’re not allowed to take fresh peppers into the U.S.

The
roses are still blooming and it will be a while before they go dormant. We’re not supposed to cut the flowers off at
this time of year but let them dry up to create rose hips. I miss having the fragrant smell of roses in
the house.
Yesterday,
we took our boat out on Christina Lake for the last trip of the season and the
weather was great. The water was calm
and there were very few boats around. We
caught 3 small trout and released them right away. No fish for supper.
We've
been working on the church renovations and have become the main framing
crew. We've framed 9 exterior walls so
far and have 3 more to do. Then we hope
to move on to framing in a small mop room which should be fun to do.

Other people are doing the insulation after
we frame and it’s nice to avoid that job.
Even with the newer insulation products from Roxul (manufactured here in
Grand Forks), you still need to wear eye protection, masks and long sleeves.

Thanksgiving
is just a week away and we’re going to make a traditional turkey dinner at home
with all the trimmings.
