We
had an excellent trip to Surprise with good weather along the way and it was
very nice not to be towing the trailer.
Every stop was quicker and easier and of course, the fuel economy was
great without the RV. We had long
driving days, spending the first night in Mountain Home, Idaho (about 45
minutes southeast of Boise) and then the second night in Henderson (southeast
of Las Vegas). Here are a couple of
contrasting photos on the journey—isolated high elevation Nevada and rush hour traffic
in Las Vegas.
Our
third night was spent in Wickenburg, Arizona which is about 45 minutes
northwest of Surprise. We had a nice
room there in a western themed Super 8 motel and had Mexican food at one of the
popular restaurants for dinner. It was
good but we still like the Mexican food at Rancho Chico in Colville, WA close to home.
We
arrived at our rental lot early on Nov 1 and were pleased to find everything in
good shape although quite dusty. The
owners had hosed off the lot about a week before that but we found a lot more
dust to wash away. The top of the RV
will need to be done but we’re not in a hurry for that job. All of our liquids survived the summer heat
although some of the liquid soap was quite thick. Our neighbour looked after our RV and filled
the water buckets inside a few times during the summer.
It
took us a few days to get unpacked and settled in and we’ve added an extra
seating area on the lot. Our main area
is in front of the shed with very little privacy so we set up the second area
further back where we can’t be seen from the street.
We also have our little BBQ area and have
been doing BBQ or slow cooker for suppers since we arrived.
After
settling in, we got out to the pickleball courts and it has been fun to see old
friends again and get back into the routine.
Today, there was a potluck breakfast that was well attended.
We
even found time to play golf yesterday and we plan to go to the theatre
tomorrow. There is such a difference in our
activities between quiet Grand Forks in the summer and busy Surprise in the
winter.
