HODGE PODGE

The weather has been hot and sunny for most of this month and we’re loving every minute of it.  Of course, it gets hot out on the golf course especially when we are finishing the round at 2 p.m. after walking all 18 holes.  It’s a good workout and we are managing to improve our games.  We’re also keeping up our skills with pickleball, playing once or twice a week with different groups of friends.

The garden is doing well and more plants are ready for harvest.  Daily watering and occasional cultivating seems to be the key to keeping everything healthy.  Here’s one of our zucchini plants:

I’m very happy with my little rose garden and we had fresh roses to pick almost every day in June.  Here are some photos.

Stuart loves building things and decided to build a shelf unit in the shop to hold his RC planes and other toys.  These are the before and after photos.

Two years ago, Stuart had built a pair of wooden boxes that we used for supporting the big slide out on our RV but last fall, we replaced them with commercial metal slide supports.  The wooden boxes were just sitting in the shop taking up space so Stuart added top and bottom layers to create plant stands for our deck flower pots.  I painted them a neutral colour and they turned out very well.

He also re-finished the kitchen counter-tops which was a task that took 4 or 5 days to complete the different sections.  The counter-tops are made of concrete so he had to sand them down multiple times with 250 grit, then 600 grit, then 1500 grit and finally 3000 grit sand paper to remove all the old finish.  Next, he applied the glossy finish and it was a challenge to get it smooth with no brush marks.  It took a couple of coats and I think he did an excellent job.

SO SHINY

And so we continue to enjoy the summer, doing a variety of things each week and making the most of the great weather.  What a wonderful place to live.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
