August
has been a busy month. A few weeks ago,
my Dad passed away so my brother and I needed to deal with the funeral and
settling Dad’s estate. I took a couple
of trips to Creston and we were able to get the major things done within a
week. Everything seemed to happen very
quickly and now it seems that there is time to properly grieve.
We
haven’t played golf this month but did get out for a few games of
pickleball. The garden continues to do
well and we've been giving away zucchinis every week and might have to give
away some tomatoes as they are ripening quickly. We have an abundance of squashes and melons
that won’t be ready for a few weeks yet.
JAPANESE EGGPLANT
Early
this week, we had Stuart’s Mom, son and daughter-in-law visiting for a few days
and that was a lot of fun. We showed
them how to play pickleball and drove them around parts of the town and the
valley. They didn't realize how close we
live to the U.S. border. On their last
day here, we took them out on our boat to Christina Lake and they just loved
it. Once they found out how warm the water was, they didn't want to come out except to jump back in again from the bow or stern of the boat. We
stopped near one of the rocky points that has a rope swing and swam to shore to
check it out. It looked a bit dangerous
so we convinced Stuart’s son to just jump off the rocks and not use the
rope. It worked out just fine.
So
we’re back on our own now and it’s starting to feel a bit like fall. The nights are getting cooler and the
hummingbirds are leaving the area. We
still have warm days, though and plenty of things to do.
