SUMMER TIME

The bluebirds have gone away but we aren't sure how many survived.  We found one baby bird body in the garden and saw blue feathers on the lawn below the birdhouse.  Hopefully, at least one survived after all the hard work by the parents.  We've cleaned out the birdhouse and it’s ready for new tenants again.

Our laundry room project is now completed.  Stuart spray painted the louvered closet doors and we installed the pantry unit that we had custom built in Kelowna.  It was built as two stacking units and they were quite heavy to lift and maneuver into place.  The bottom unit fit in the alcove with a few millimeters to spare but the top unit was very tight.  And of course, we had to lift it up high to slide it into place.  We got it done with some sweat, stress and a few scrapes on the drywall.  It is a great storage unit and looks like it always belonged in the space.

 ALL DONE

Our garden is flourishing and we’ve been eating fresh beets, a few carrots, zucchini, swiss chard and will be harvesting the peas in the next few days.  We had a huge rain and wind storm yesterday afternoon that knocked some of the bean plants over, so we will be adding more stakes and string to hold them up.

The storm started while we were on the golf course and we arrived at home just as the last rains were coming down.  As we were heading outside to do some stuff I looked up at Hardy Mountain, which is behind our property, and saw smoke rising from a lightning strike.  I contacted the Wildfire office to report the fire and within an hour, there was a crew that climbed up to the fire and extinguished it with hand tools and a backpack water tank.  It is nice to know that there are still fire suppression crews around to deal with these small fires before they become a problem.

ALL DONE AND WALKING OUT

We’ve been playing golf, some pickleball and took our boat out on Christina Lake.  It was warm enough for a swim and we did troll for fish for a couple of hours.  We had 5 little ones on our lines but released them right away.  The big fish weren’t interested that day.

The summer is going well and we are enjoying every aspect of being at home.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
