The
rest of September was warm and sunny so we took advantage of the weather to
continue with our recreational activities:
golfing, fishing and pickleball.
We get plenty of exercise with those activities along with mowing the
lawn and tending the garden. We were
able to harvest veggies every day and it sure makes a difference to the produce
bill.
Three
nights ago we had a killing frost (-5C) and even though we covered the tomatoes
and peppers, they were damaged and we had to harvest all the ripe and nearly
ripe ones. We’re drying the hot peppers
so we can take them south with us and we expect that we’ll be able to eat most
of the others veggies in the next few weeks.
The butternut squashes are huge and very tasty.
JALAPENOS
We
had a visit from Stuart’s Mom, step Dad and sister this past weekend and had a
great time. We showed them how to play
pickleball and they loved it—as most people do.
We also drove to Christina Lake as his sister hasn't been out this way
before and showed them our golf course as well.
Everything is still quite green although some deciduous trees are
starting to turn yellow.
So
Thanksgiving is almost here and we’re doing a potluck meal at our church on
Sunday. There will be turkey, duck and
all the usual side dishes but we think that we’ll also do our own turkey on
Monday. We love our traditional
celebration and of course, the turkey leftovers are a treat.
WEIRD CARROTS
We’re
approaching the 3 week countdown to going south—time to start getting ready.
