We’re
at the final countdown stage now, only 3 days and 4 more sleeps until we start
on the journey. This year, we’re
planning to take a different route by going east on Interstate-90 from Spokane
and then taking Interstate 15 south from Missoula, Montana through Salt Lake
City and then down through western Utah and Las Vegas.
We considered going through eastern Utah or along the north side of the
Grand Canyon but it’s all higher elevation and the night time temperatures are
traditionally well below freezing. We
prefer to get to the warm places (our home free zone) as quickly as possible.
The
garden is all finished now except for a few carrots that we’ll dig up just before
we leave and we haven’t picked the Brussels Sprouts yet. They are still quite small but we’ll have
enough for one meal anyway. Stuart
tilled the garden last week and we've been steadily winterizing equipment and
putting it away. The boat is in the shop
and all the deck furniture is in the garage.
Kind of sad to see the empty spaces.
I still have 4 red geraniums in full bloom in their pots and I hate to
have to “kill” them in a few days. I’d
love to take them south with us but they won’t let us take them across the
border.
When
the weather changed to cloudy and cooler, we burned our scrap pile and had a wiener
roast. It was great fun—can’t remember
the last time we roasted wieners.
The
deciduous trees started changing colour a week ago and now they are losing
their leaves. Our new elm trees look
nice with their yellow foliage.
Next
post should be from somewhere in the USA.
