Last weekend, we decided to have a getaway and drove over
to Oliver and Osoyoos for a day and a night.
We did some shopping in Osoyoos first at their quaint Home Hardware
store and then drove up to Oliver and looked around at the stores and places in
town. Some things have changed from
years ago when we vacationed there, some are still the same. We continued north to Covert Farms and that
is one place that has changed a lot. We
used to pick tomatoes and get onions from their huge fields, now they are all
vineyards, much like many areas of the south Okanagan.
We had lunch at our favourite East Indian restaurant in Oliver
and then went for a wine tasting at Silver Sage winery. We’ve been there before, and they provide an
excellent experience for customers. We
happened to arrive just after a large group got there so we sat with them and
were entertained by one of the owners while we tasted 6 regular wines and about
6 dessert wines. And all this for
free!! Of course, we bought some wine
but not everyone made purchases.
The setting at Silver Sage is beautiful and I always enjoy
their extensive rose gardens.
We went back to Osoyoos and stayed at the Holiday Inn on
the lake and had a wonderful view from our room.
It wasn’t tourist season but there were still
people wining and dining and out on the water, even a few brave souls
swimming. We had a nice evening, dinner
out, and a lovely drive home the next day.
Great to have a change and to see such beautiful places so close to
home.
