MINI PROJECTS

One thing always leads to another!

Stuart dug out the compost from the box in the corner of the garden to add to the plants.  There was a large quantity of good compost and he filled 4 Rubbermaid containers with the mix as well as adding it to all the rows.  After he dug it out, we realized that the sides of the box were falling apart.  We decided to rebuild it using leftover 2 by 6 deck boards and 2 by 4’s.  Stuart constructed the 3 sides separately in the shop and then we hauled them out to the garden to put it all together.  For a door, he stacked boards across the front so that we can lift them off and dig out what we need from the bottom.  It all needed to be stained after it was in place and we are pleased with the results.

The old box had a garden stake rack attached to the side that was very useful and so we planned to replace it with something even better.  When I’ve been working out in the garden, I often wished I had a small surface to set things on rather than putting things on the ground.  This evolved into a combination work table and stake rack designed specifically for our needs.  Again, Stuart used leftover materials and completed the job in a couple of days.

The garden area is becoming more of a “happy place”—now all I need is a place to sit and watch things grow.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
