THE NEXT BIG PROJECT

The plants in the greenhouse are flourishing again this year and I’ve already planted squashes and some cucumbers out in the garden.  With the cooler weather in April, the seeds in the garden were slow starting, or maybe my seed tapes aren’t the best choice.  The peas are doing well and the rest of the plants sprouting.

We’ve been out golfing a couple of times and are now focused on building the equipment shed behind the shop.  The floor wintered well under the tarp and we were able to start framing after pulling siding off the shop.

The materials that we ordered were delivered and dropped off close to our work site.  Nice to have plenty of room to work.

The framing went quickly and we always enjoy that type of work.  Again, it was much easier to do with the nail gun.

Next steps were putting on sheets of OSB to firm it up and then Stuart built the rafters.  He made triangle trusses for each end and then the rafters in between.  We stabilized them at both ends with blocking pieces between each rafter.

We chose to put OSB on the roof which was the next step and then the metal roofing on top of that.  The roof slope is not very steep so it wasn’t scary being up there.  It’s a lot higher when I get up on the RV roof.

We had an extra door from the shop but no frame so Stuart built a door frame from scratch.  He was able to do the work in the shop which was easier and more accurate.  I painted the door and the frame before putting them up and then had to paint the trim around the door.  It fits well, looks good and the latch and deadbolt work well.

We’ve just started on the siding, but I’ll leave that for the next post.  So much fun to be working again!!

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
