JANUARY SECOND SATURDAY

This month we went to the Phoenix Dream Center for our first Second Saturday volunteer event of 2018.  As usual, we gathered at the church at 7:30 a.m. and boarded the three buses for the 45 minute trip into Phoenix.

The Phoenix Dream Center (https://www.phxdreamcenter.org/ ) provides both outreach and housing programs to people in need:  recovery programs, emergency family housing and housing for homeless, foster care prevention and age out programs and programs for young women out of sex trafficking.

Our efforts were put into cleaning up and organizing their thrift shop, cleaning and re-furbishing some of the apartments, landscaping and clean up and of course, painting.  Stuart and I were on the painting crew and worked on the front and sides of the main building.

We had plenty of volunteers, so the work was done quickly and no one was overworked.

We spent about 3 hours at the site and accomplished all our goals.  The staff at the Dream Center were very appreciative of our help and we all enjoyed spending our Saturday morning doing something good.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
