GOLF CART MAKEOVER

Happy New Year to all!!  It’s wonderful to start a new calendar year and to enjoy longer and brighter days.  Winter still has its role to play but spring is the next seasonal event.

Things are going well with us and we’ve concluded a major project with our golf cart.  When we bought it, the body colour was yellow and the seats were ripped and patched.  The previous owners had purchased yellow and black John Deere seat covers and we were content to have that look for a while.

We talked about painting the cart and changing the seats last year but never got around to it.  This year we tackled the project.  I decided not to use spray paint as it can be messy and we’d have to find a place off the lot to do the work.  Instead, I bought a gloss paint and primer and used both a paint pad and brush to put on the initial coats.

I taped the edges and painted the main body in stages, doing multiple coats.
Stuart removed the head lights and replaced them with cool LED bars that are much brighter at night.

I completed the final coat with a roller that helped to smooth out the texture and touched up all the “blips” under the tape.

Once the painting was done, we worked on the seats.  Stuart researched replacement seats, new seat covers, building a bench seat, etc. and we finally decided that getting them re-upholstered would be the best option.  The first place we checked was very expensive and then we found a small upholstery shop in El Mirage called Marcelas that had reasonable prices.

They offered to do both seats for half the price of the other shop and they were able to do the job quickly.  We dropped them off on a Thursday afternoon and picked them up Friday afternoon.  Excellent service!!  We were able to choose the colour and went with a dark green to match the cart.

The final touch was painting the raised “Yamaha” lettering on the front.  A painstaking job, sure needed a steady hand.  We are pleased with the results and other than the green colour, there is no link to John Deere anymore.

It’s been cold at night for about 2 weeks now (2 to 4C) so we are getting a later start in the mornings for outside activities.  Not bad compared to the weather in BC right now—we are blessed to be here.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
