SETTLED IN SURPRISE

Well, we had an excellent trip from home to Surprise, AZ that took 3 days and 3 nights.  The weather was dry, a mix of sun and clouds and it progressively got warmer as we headed south.  We repeated the route we took a number of years ago on highway 95 through southeastern Oregon and then along the desolate highway in central Nevada.

OUR ROUTE

There is a switchback hill climb in the middle of that section through the small town of Austin, Nevada.

This trip, we decided to skirt around Las Vegas on the southwest side and took a road new to us through the town of Pahrump.  It was a surprisingly large town with lots of amenities and RV resorts.  Obviously, a winter destination for some folks.

On November 1, we hooked up the RV and moved it over to our new lot and it took a while to get it positioned well.  There is a pergola than wraps around behind the RV and restricts the distance that you can back up and we had also to clear the power post on the east side.

BACK OF RV

After that, we started unpacking the RV and cleaning and setting up the shed and the outside kitchen.  The photos give you the best description of what everything is like.

It took 3 days to get fully settled and a few trips to the grocery stores to stock up on food and supplies.  Finally, on Saturday morning Stuart played pickleball and I had a workout and a swim.  The weather here has been a mix of sun and clouds with highs of 26 and 27.  So, very nice and we are thankful that we left home before the snows came.

During the summer, a quail made a nest in the front hitch of the RV but didn’t hatch the eggs.  We didn’t crack any of them open, too gross.

This week will be the start of our regular routine which will include some golf.  Even though we played a lot during the summer, it will be nice to get out a few times here before it gets busy in January.  We’ve been blessed with a great life!!

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
