GOOD THINGS

The weather continues to be warm even for Arizona with highs of 31 and 30 the past 2 days.  Today is the USA Thanksgiving—not sure who wants to cook and eat turkey when it’s that hot.  We are sticking to regular food and Stuart will be BBQ’ing again.  It is nice to have the full size BBQ, almost like home.  The igniters don’t work on this one so Stuart drilled a hole in the side so he can insert a lighter near the burners.  The first time he tried to light it from the top he burned a lot of the hairs off his arm.  It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt!!

About a week in to our first month, Stuart caught a cold that took him out for a couple of days.  Then I caught the cold and had a few down days as well.  We’re pretty much back to normal now and have been able to golf this week.  We found a nice course in Sun City West and we’ll take photos of the course next time we play.

In our RV, the swivel/recliner chairs were covered in a faux leather that was drying out and cracking.  We figured that we’d have to buy new ones in the next month and were not really looking forward to the process or to spending about $1000.  The chairs had to be no wider than 32” in order to sit at the back when the slides are pulled in so most regular chairs won’t fit.

Anyway, we had a blessing with the chairs.  Someone up the street from us put 2 swivel/recliner chairs that they didn’t want/need anymore out at the front of their lot to give away.  Stuart saw them while riding by on his bike, checked out their condition which was good and then hustled home to get the truck and pick up the chairs.  They are cloth covered in a dark brown which matches our décor and they are very comfortable.  They are the same colour and size as we would have been shopping for.  Good things happen when you least expect it.

On one of our trips to the waste bins, we saw a zero gravity lounge chair that was being thrown out because the support cords were broken.  Well, we have a large roll of shock cord for that very purpose so we brought it home and fixed it up.  I painted the metal and plastic parts and we re-strung the chair.  It is very comfortable and attractive.

We hung up the hummingbirds that we made this summer and a live hummingbird kept buzzing them looking for food.  We put up a feeder and now we have one faithful hummer who is hanging around most of the day and one other that visits once in a while.  The finches occasionally land on the feeder and get a few drinks but they sure have trouble hanging on.

So things are good here, we’re staying active and finding little projects to do around the RV and the lot.  We’ve put up some motion sensor lights for going from the RV to the shed after dark and Stuart has installed a switch for the roof vent in the kitchen area.  The thermostat has not worked properly for a long time and the replacement one wasn’t much better so the switch allows us to open and close the vent when we want.  Good thing Stuart has lots of tools for these jobs.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
