NEW THINGS

We’ve had a busy spring so far and time seems to be flying.  Shortly after we got home, we went to our local Sears store and bought a new fridge and stove.  The old ones were white and we replaced them with stainless steel which looks better with our white kitchen cabinets.

It was challenging to move them out as the doors and bottom drawer on the fridge had to be removed to get through the front door.  With patience and perseverance, we got it done and the new one came in easier as it was shipped without the door handles fastened.  We really appreciate the water and ice dispenser in the door of the fridge.

We saved the old appliances to give to Stuart’s daughter in Aldergrove and made the delivery trip last weekend.

LOTS OF SNOW IN THE HIGH COUNTRY STILL TO MELT

We borrowed a utility trailer from a friend rather than trying to lift the appliances into the back of the truck.  A much better choice.  Stuart had it well tarped and tied down and the weather was good, no rain or wind.  At the other end, we had the same challenge getting the fridge through the door but got it done.  They really appreciated the appliances.

We also bought a new car this spring and sold our little green Accent to some friends that live in the Castlegar area.  We’d started the buying and selling process over the winter and focused on test driving our choices in Castlegar and Kelowna.  We even test drove a BMW M240i Xdrive which was a very powerful but expensive car.

In the end, we bought a Honda Accord Touring V6 Coupe with all the latest safety features.  It has rear and side cameras, front and back sensors, lane departure warnings, adaptive cruise control that sets and maintains a specified distance behind a vehicle and crash mitigation which will apply the brakes if it appears that you are going to crash into something.  How cool is that?

So far, we’ve only driven it back from Kelowna and then short trips around town and to the golf course.  It will take a while to break it in and we’ll be heading to Nelson later this month and then to the Coast in June.  It’s a beautiful car, such a blessing to be able to buy a new one.

All else is going well for us and spring is finally on the way.  The garden will be prepped and planted in the next couple of weeks and we’ve already been mowing the lawn and doing yard work.  Bring on the sunshine!

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
