ANOTHER SECOND SATURDAY

This time we rode the buses to the downtown Phoenix area to one of the properties of the Phoenix Rescue Mission.  It is a Christ based organization that provides shelter, food and training for homeless men, women and children.  The property that we worked on was an empty restaurant that was being restored and cleaned up as a life skills training centre for women.
There were about 250 volunteers and we filled up 4 buses.

Stuart and I chose to work on the interior painting crew and worked on the main room that had tall ceilings and then three restrooms.  It was wonderful to work with a paint brush and roller again and it is so rewarding to see the walls looking fresh and new.

Outside, there were exterior painters, landscape crews, clean-up crews and some groups were putting together bag lunches for the homeless.  There is always something for everyone to do.

We worked hard and got most of the work done in a few hours.  All the paint was provided free of charge by a paint company and there were professional painters who came in after us to touch up as needed and spray paint the ceilings.  We never got to see the finished product, but I’m guessing that it turned out well.

Back at our RV home, we are starting to make plans for going home and cleaning out a few spaces.  The weather is hot now, up to 30 most days and it cools off to 16 overnight.  This morning we decided to go for a swim in the pool before breakfast and were blessed with a beautiful sunrise.  We were the only 2 people at the pool, very special.

We head out on April 1 after we move the RV to a covered lot in this park we have rented for summer storage.  We’re not sure how long it will take but we plan to drive as far as Las Vegas that first night.  We are looking forward to going home but as usual, we are enjoying every last moment here.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
