We’re back in the routine at the RV and the weather has
finally started to turn to spring. With
the change, the birds are hanging around and singing every morning. We bought a bird feeder to use up the seed that
we had at the house in Mesa and the birds just love it. We are only allowed hummingbird feeders in
the resort but we put this one up at the back of the RV and will take it down
when the seeds are consumed.
The smaller birds go directly to the feeder and the larger
birds dig in the rocks under the feeder to get the dropped seed. The quails are aggressive diggers and have
pushed a lot of rocks over the edging onto the concrete. This one particular bird picked up the rocks
in its beak and tossed them aside. Too
bad I couldn’t get a picture of it in action!
On Saturday, we participated in our church’s Second
Saturday volunteer event. There were
about 250 volunteers and we were transported in 4 buses to an elementary school
that is attended by the children of low income families. The brick building at this school doesn’t
look like a “traditional” school to us and the funding is obviously different from
what we are familiar with back in B.C.
However, the classrooms had the usual desks, whiteboards, wall art and
computer terminals as our schools.
We were tasked with cleaning up the inside and outside of
the buildings, painting some of the wooden structures, planting trees and
shrubs, repairing an awning, writing notes to the students and preparing gifts
for the teachers.
It was a great time and we accomplished everything in just
a few hours.
