A couple of weeks ago, I fell on the pickleball court and
fractured my left leg and left arm. Yes,
here we go again with challenges. We
went to the ER that day and I was x-rayed and given a leg splint and an arm
sling and then had to make appointments at an orthopedic place for follow up a
few days later. I was told to keep the
weight off my leg so with that side of my body unusable, it has been difficult
to get around. However, God blessed us
with creative thinking and we figured out all sorts of things to make life
easier.
I have learned to stand and stay balanced on my right leg
with my right arm holding on to immovable objects. I am also using the computer
chair with 5 wheels as my “wheel” chair inside the RV and outside on the patio. I can scoot around fairly well with it but it
works best backwards so I am seeing things from a different perspective. We’ve rented a real wheel chair to be used
when we go out which is a great thing for getting into stores and the cinema.
Anyway, my fractures are “non-displaced” so I don’t require
surgery but I am supposed to keep the weight off my leg for 6 weeks and not use
my arm for at least 4 weeks. I’ll have
more x-rays later this week to see how I’m doing.
Stuart is taking good care of me and we are making the best
of the situation by doing something interesting every day. The weather has been quite nice the past week
with sunshine and a temperature range from 7 at night to 19 or 20 during the
day. It feels good, especially when we
sit in the sun and soak up the heat. We
did have a few cold days a while ago with rain and clouds and it will likely
get cool again later in the month.
One thing that we do at this time of year is start planning
for the next winter season. As this lot
is only a 5 month rental and is for sale, we’ll need to move the RV in the
spring. We don’t want to haul it all the
way home and are looking at storing here, either in a covered storage facility
or on a covered lot if we can find one.
Then we’ll need a place to rent for next winter. We like this lot and will try to get it again
but there are no guarantees this far ahead.
We’re becoming movie regulars as the cinema is relatively easy
to access and not too expensive as we go to the $5 matinees on Tuesdays or
Thursdays. The last movie we saw was “Arrival”
which was okay, just a little slow. We
plan to see “Fantastic Beasts and where to find them” tomorrow.
Our local church does a big Christmas event each year where
they host approximately 3000 needy families and give shoes, socks, underwear
and toys to all the kids. You may have
seen our previous posts in the blog—it is called Second Saturday and is a
wonderful event. This year, all we can
do is buy the gifts for the kids and that is a blessing.
Stuart had a carpet replacement job on the golf cart that
went very well.
He had to drill out some pop rivets to remove metal strips that were holding the old carpet down and then used the old carpet as a template for the new one.
We brought a piece from home that was the correct width, it just needed some cut outs for the pedals and to be trimmed to the right length. He re-attached the metal strips on the ends with sheet metal screws. That meant a trip to Ace Hardware (no Canadian Tire here) and he bought a couple of screwdriver sets that were on sale as well. He loves his tools!!

So, we’ll keep you posted on my progress and the movie
reviews (no rotten tomatoes from us).
