PICKLEBALL IN OUR FUTURE

Autumn Trees Along the Granby River

Well, things are winding down for our season at home and it has been a rainy month.  We harvested the above ground garden vegetables after a hard frost a couple of weeks ago and just have the carrots and parsnips to do next week.  The flowers stayed in full bloom until the frost and now the compost box is full of plants and leaves.  It will compact well over the winter and we’ll have fresh compost for next year’s garden.

In the past, we played pickleball on the tennis courts in one of our local parks but this year, the city of Grand Forks made some major changes.  They resurfaced the entire area, eliminated one tennis court and created 4 pickleball courts.  How’s that for being progressive??

We went out twice to check out the courts and did some practicing to see how well my knee would handle the movements.  It went quite well and we’re planning to get back into regular pickleball when we are in Surprise for the winter.  That will be wonderful!!  I’ve missed playing the past 2 years.

These deer are the regular court spectators.

In addition to seeing the bears on the mountain, we’ve have a covey of quail that visit our yard and they are fun to watch.  However, they are prey for the hawks and we watched one catch and feast on a small quail.

We went grouse hunting a while ago and it was a beautiful drive.

Again, we saw a bear and mountain sheep and of course, the grouse.  Stuart shot 2 of them and they made a tasty supper.  We did see a few more of them in the forest and along the road so it is a good place to go hunting next time.

Only a week until we head back to Arizona and we are steadily getting all our winterizing, preparing and packing done.  We have an excellent “to do” list that we follow faithfully and as we’ve done this a few times, the process is very smooth.  We are looking forward to going even though we will miss the comforts and great things about our home and community.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
