It seems like the month of September is guest month for
us. We had friends from the Lower
Mainland come over for a few days and the weather was great. We try to do something different each time
they visit so this year we played 9 holes at the par 3 golf course at Christina
Lake. The course was in good shape and
easy enough to walk. Afterwards, we had
a tasty lunch at the Christina Lake golf course clubhouse.
Then last week, Stuart’s Mom came on the bus to stay with
us for a few days. Again, the weather
was nice for the most part and we went for a hike on the west part of the
railroad bed that passes behind and above our house.
We went past a vineyard where they were picking grapes; not
sure if they are part of the local winery here (Bronze Wines).
Now that fall is here, we are seeing the bears on the
mountain more frequently. We’ve seen a
large cinnamon coloured bear below the trail once and have seen the black
mother and her 2 cubs most often.
The garden is still producing tomatoes, peppers, carrots,
eggplant and squashes. We haven’t had a
frost yet which is great. Yesterday,
though, we pulled up the bean plants, harvested the last of the Swiss chard and
Stuart tilled the empty parts of the rows.
Nice to get that done before it gets cold.
Golf continues to be our main recreation. We have been
going out 2 or 3 times per week, including later today.
Other than that, we are still doing outside
jobs like fence staining and pressure washing the outside of the house and
shop. No shortage of things to do around
here and we enjoy the work.
