For
the past 3 years, we have volunteered with our church friends to cook breakfast
for about 300 youth that attend a Christian conference in Grand Forks. We start before 7 a.m. and get the pancakes
mixed and on the griddle and the sausages, bacon and ham in the ovens for
service at 8:30. Here are some of the
crew hard at work:
And
we couldn’t do without the clean-up crew….
At
home, we are in full “winterizing” mode although the weather is still warm with
some sunny days. We had one frost about
a week ago but it didn’t affect the plants.
I still have flowers blooming on the deck and some of the roses are
blooming as well. I’m actually hoping
for cold weather before we leave as the roses should go through a hard frost
before getting covered up. Nothing I can
do about the weather, though.
We’ve
blown out the irrigation system, winterized the mowers and other yard equipment
and the boat. That was a big job this
year as the extractor pump we have to remove the oil didn’t work at all. We got it done, though, and the boat is
stored in the shop for the winter. A
friend of ours is going to store his boat in our boat house which will be nice
as he will keep the snow from building up on it.
We’re
planning to leave for Arizona on Oct 29 and take our usual route to Ontario,
Idaho. From there, we’re going to take
highway 95 south through western Nevada and then through Las Vegas, etc. to
Surprise. We’ve talked about taking this
route for a number of years and are finally going to try it. It’s hard to believe that our season at home
is almost over—it sure went fast.
