SIGHTSEEING NEAR SEDONA

We enjoyed our time in Kingman and were on the road again yesterday, travelling east on I-40 to Flagstaff and stopping in Camp Verde.  After settling in, we drove north to the Montezuma Well National monument and did a hike around the perimeter of the well, down into the bottom of it and then around to the outlet.  Do you know what a “swallet” is?  Check out the photos below.

Next, we went to see the Montezuma Castle which is the famous Sinagua (means "without water" in Spanish) tribe cliff dwelling.  It was interesting to see how creative they were in establishing their community in the protection of the huge cliffs.

Today we drove north through Oak Creek Valley to Sedona and were delighted with all the gigantic red rock formations.  It reminded us of Arches National Park in Utah but each area has unique colours and shapes.  The town of Sedona blends well with the surroundings and they must have a law that all the buildings conform to an adobe style, even the McDonald’s restaurant. It’s beautiful country and well worth the side trip to see it.

Tomorrow we head to Surprise to set up for the next 5 months.  We’re excited about the last leg of our journey and hope that it is as nice there as we have imagined.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
