MOUSE IN THE HOUSE

Well, not quite in the house but in the RV.  Stuart was doing some work on the RV sewer hoses and noticed that there were some mouse droppings in one area of the storage compartment.  We had a look in the bigger compartment and found more droppings and some shredded paper towels.  So the battle began.  We bought mousetraps (the old fashioned kind, not the “humane” kind), baited them with peanut butter and placed one in the RV living area and two in the storage compartment.  A check back the next day showed the mouse liked the food but was too clever to get caught.  Stuart reset the traps with a more sensitive setting and more peanut butter.  Success!!  We caught one and here’s what he looked like:

Stuart re-baited the traps and we haven’t caught any others since then.  Hopefully, it was just the one mouse but we’re leaving the traps out for the next few weeks.

Our visit with friends was really good and we introduced them to pickleball.  They enjoyed it very much and now have a fun activity to look forward to when they retire.  We’ve been playing a couple of times a week and it’s been great to play outdoors in the warm weather with no wind.  Not like outdoor pickleball in windy Yuma.

GRAND FORKS VALLEY FROM THE WEST

We’re also playing golf a couple of times a week and took the motorcycle out for a longer ride last week.  Our projects are getting smaller with the latest ones only 2 or 3 days of commitment.  Stuart sanded and refinished our oak dining room table and I re-grouted the tile floor of the ensuite shower.  Good maintenance jobs to keep us out of trouble.

We’re up to our ears in green and yellow bush beans and the pole beans are now starting to ripen.  Lots of bean salads, beans in stir frys, beans in chicken curry but no beans for dessert.  We have a good supply in the freezer as well and we definitely notice that once the garden starts producing, we don’t go to the grocery store very often.

TRI-COLOURED FLOWERS ON OUR DECK

These warm summer days make us forget all the rain and cool weather we had this past spring.  We get our exercise and recreation in the first half of the day and then spend an hour or two sitting on the front porch reading and relaxing.  The Nook Simple Touch e-readers we bought last fall are working out great and we've been reading a book a week on average.  We’re able to download e-books from our library, either by selecting from what’s currently available or placing holds on books that become available in a few weeks.  You can sign a book out for 7, 14 or 21 days which allows you plenty of flexibility and it’s nice that we don’t have to purchase books.  Love the BC library system.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
