THE LAST WEEK IN YUMA

We’ve used up our days and will be starting the drive home tomorrow.  Even though the weather is really warm and sunny here right now, we are looking forward to getting home to enjoy all its comforts and start our projects.  Our last week has been busy with some special days.

One of the guys that we play pickleball with had his 80th birthday at the end of March so last Friday, they had cake and ice cream for everyone who came to play.  You know that pickleball is an addictive game when people will abandon their ice cream when there is a free court and they are called up for the next game.  We had our last games on Monday and it was a bit sad to leave our friends as we’re not coming back here next year.

We also played golf at Coyote Wash Golf Course with friends from Penticton and it was a good afternoon although it was slow out there and took us over 5 hours for 18 holes.  At least it was warm and sunny and we had power carts to sit in while we waited.  Here are a couple of photos:

WAITING, WAITING AND MORE WAITING

DOES THAT LOOK LIKE FISH FOOD?

People are checking out of the resort on a daily basis here and interesting things happen when they leave.  We watched a pair of mourning doves building a nest on top of golf pull carts that were strapped to an RV ladder.  They worked at it diligently for a couple of days and then the people packed up and left.  I wonder what the birds thought when their nest disappeared.

BIRD ABOUT TO BE EVICTED

We had a big sand/dust storm on Sunday and it blew sand and dirt in from the desert south of the resort.  Everyone’s RV was dusty and it even blew in through some of the closed windows.  Not very nice at all.  We planned to wash the truck and RV before heading out so we spent a couple of hours on that job yesterday.  Most people hire Mexican workers to come and wash their rigs but we like to do it ourselves—we take more care and get it done the way we like.

DESERT POLLUTION

We went out to a BBQ restaurant yesterday for an early birthday celebration for Stuart.  They gave him a free meal so why not take advantage of the offer?  Tonight, we’re going to a pickleball friend’s place for a BBQ and that will be our last hurrah in Yuma as we leave tomorrow morning.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
