WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS GOES IN THE BLOG

Oct 31/11

We arrived safely in Boulder City (about six miles southeast of Las Vegas) on Oct 25 after a good overnight in Ely where the night time temperature stayed just above freezing.  It was clear and sunny all the way to our destination.  We decided to spend a week here so we’d have plenty of time for shopping and sightseeing activities.

Last year, we purchased golf irons and this year we wanted to purchase new woods.  After much online research, we headed out to the Callaway Golf Centre south of the Las Vegas Strip and spent about an hour trying out different clubs.  The golf centre has an outdoor driving range where you can try the clubs and it is under the flight path to McCarron Airport.  Talk about distracting!!  Every time an airplane came in for a landing, we had to stop and watch it go by overhead.  They appeared to be so close we thought we could hit them with a golf ball.  We made our purchase which included trading-in our old clubs.  They had everything “in stock” except for my driver which they are shipping to our place in Yuma.  They didn’t have the combination of loft and shaft flex that suits me so one will be built and shipped from the factory.  Hope it gets there.

The rest of our shopping was small items like a coffee maker, thermometer/weather station and bed linens.  Nothing really exotic, it’s just nice to have a big selection at reasonable prices.  Since we haven’t been on the Las Vegas Strip for about 14 years, we decided to spend a day looking around at the sights.  It’s great that there is free parking in all the casinos—you just have to work your way through them from the parkade to the street.  Not a problem for us as we don’t feel like spending our money on gambling.

We walked for a couple of hours and had a good look around the shops in the Venetian Casino.  It’s an interesting place with interesting people.  Here are some photos:

Look at that sky--hard to tell that you are indoors

And we get it for free in Grand Forks

Guess they are ready for Halloween

We haven’t had an internet connection at the Boulder City RV Park for about 3 days so the blog posting is late.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
