AAHH, IT’S SUMMERTIME!!

We’ve had sunny and very warm weather since late July and we love it.  The temperatures have been in the high 20’s and low 30’s for the past 2 weeks but it does cool down to 13 or 14 at night.  Great for enjoying the day and getting a good night’s sleep.

Everything in the garden is growing well now and all the flowers around the house are doing fine, too.  Here are some photos.

It’s great to be eating our own fresh cucumbers, beans, onions, tomatoes, eggplants, carrots and beets.  The root vegetables do very well in our sandy loam soil as you can tell by the size of this beet.

We were doing a variety of odd jobs up to the long weekend of August and then decided that we had the time and energy for one more major project this summer season.  So we bought materials for building a 7 ft tall wooden fence on the south side of our property from the garden to the southeast corner.  It is 109 ft long so it is a substantial building project.  We’re trying to work at it slowly while continuing with other activities like fishing and boating.

HERE IS THE BEFORE PHOTO - AFTER PHOTOS WILL COME LATER

We took our inflatable boat out to Jewel Lake (12 km north of Greenwood) and had a great day on the lake.  Stuart hooked 3 fish but lost them at the boat.  The fish are getting soft at this time of year and don’t bite the hooks aggressively so most people are losing fish.  It was fun to be out there in the small boat again but we do appreciate our big lake boat.

Actually, we were out on Christina Lake today and had a wonderful swim in the middle of the lake.  The water is a comfortable temperature and it was refreshing after sitting in the hot sun for a couple of hours.  Ah, the good life of summertime.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
