FINISHED LUGGING THE SLAG

Well, bucket by bucket, we finished hauling the slag from the big pile to our front yard.

It was the easiest part of the project with the hardest part being the sod removal and placing big rocks along the perimeter of the lattice to form a nice border.  Here are photos of the different phases of the project.

Laying the landscape fabric

You can see in some of the photos that the big rocks were dug out of the existing rock walkway to our front door.  Well, replacing that walkway is another project that’s been on our minds since last year and removing the rocks and cutting a new walkway line was the next logical step in the front yard makeover.

It hasn't been all work these past two weeks, though.  We played a round of golf at the Christina Lake golf course and it was a wonderful day to be out and even the golf was fairly decent.  We played with a local couple who also spend their winters in Arizona and it was interesting to compare experiences.

We went out fishing in our boat this past Monday but didn’t have any success catching fish.  Even though the lake level is down, it hasn’t warmed up very much and the fish are staying below 100 feet.  The weather has been a mix of sun, cloud and rain but we’ve been able to take our bicycles out for a ride and have had the motorcycle out for a ride, too.  The days are clicking by pretty fast and we’re still having fun.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
