BOATING ON CHRISTINA LAKE

Now that we live so close to Christina Lake, it seemed like a good idea to buy a boat for fishing and recreating on the lake.  Our 10 foot inflatable is great for small lakes but would get lost on a larger lake.  So we searched online for boats for sale (Kijiji and Craig’s List) and then looked at a few boats in Nelson and Castlegar.  None of them were quite right and then we found one in Slocan that had all the right stuff and looked very well cared for.

Our friends who live near Slocan checked it out for us first and on their recommendation, we drove to Slocan to do our own check and ended up buying the boat.  We weren’t ready to pick it up that day so we had to go back later in the week to bring it home.  It was an exciting adventure and the fellow who sold it to us was very nice although a little sad to be selling his boat.

At home, we parked it near the trailer and spent some time cleaning it up thoroughly and getting familiar with all the equipment (fish finder, down rigger, live well).  We’ve taken it out to Christina Lake twice now and spent most of the time fishing.  It has a 9.9 HP kicker motor for trolling so we cast our lures into the water and each time out, we brought a fish home.  I caught one the first day and Stuart caught one the second day.

The big inboard motor has plenty of power and all out, it will do 50 mph.  Too fast for fishing and for lake debris.

In between boating trips, we’ve been working on the pergola and watching the garden start to grow.  The lettuce has popped up and we can see a few beets sprouting now, too.  Stuart just planted his potatoes in a box covered with hay—should be clean potatoes when they are ready to be harvested.

So things are good here and we are having fun.  The pergola is nearing completion and that will be the next story.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
