The cool April weather didn’t dampen our enthusiasm for building the deer fence around the garden and we thoroughly enjoyed the work. We spent 3 days putting in 11 posts and attaching 2 rows of 4 ft wire (using up about 185 feet of wire). We then built the garden gate; deciding to paint it a bright colour to make a statement. This is a photo of the garden area before we started any work.
And now the slideshow that shows the project from start to finish—no deer should be brave enough to try to jump that fence!!
Stuart has tilled the garden 3 times with his new rototiller and we are still picking up some small rocks every time he goes around. The soil is good, though, and we plan to use the tiller during the growing season to keep the weeds down between the rows. We’ve already purchased our seeds and have a planting diagram so now we are just waiting for the warm weather.
We bought a container of tile sealer for our slate floor in the side entrance area, laundry room, powder room and office and I spent a couple of days on my knees putting on 3 coats of sealer. A bit of a back breaker but the knee pads I used were terrific. We don’t have a “before” picture but here are a couple of “after” photos. Don’t they look good? Believe it or not, that is the semi-gloss finish—can you imagine the glare if we bought a glossy finish?
We’re taking a week for personal and recreational activities and then will tackle another project. Stay tuned.
