On New Year’s Day, we hooked up the trailer and drove 178 miles west on Interstate 8 to the Palms RV Resort in Yuma , AZ. It was a pleasant drive on a sunny day with light traffic and it was good to be on the road again. We arrived at the Palms just before 1 p.m. and it took about an hour to get checked in and backed in to our site.
We had only driven through the resort once last March so we weren't sure about all the facilities and the best sites. We picked a lot that looked all right on the site map when we made the reservation last August and it turned out to be very nice. We get the afternoon sun on the patio and have a view of a garden area from our living room and also when I’m at the sink washing dishes. Yes, I have taken up the dish washing hobby again, only this time for an extended time period.
Things are different here so it’s taking us a few days to get adjusted. Even though it is a smaller resort, we seem to be in closer contact with more people. I guess it’s because all the facilities are centralized here, whereas things were spread out at Palm Creek and there were satellite restrooms and laundry rooms that weren’t very busy. We are adapting, though, and are sure glad to have warmer weather. The days and nights here are about 8 to 10 degrees warmer than Casa Grande (which means no more freezing temperatures at night) but we are still in a cool spell for the next few days—daytime highs of 60F (15.5C) and night time lows of 42F (5.5C). Not too bad for January and the days are mostly sunny.
On Monday, we needed to get propane and headed out to the closest and cheapest propane distributor. Well, it seems that lots of other RV’ers needed to get propane, too, and there were line-ups for the 3 tanks around the yard and out to the street. They were running low on propane and we were lucky to get ours filled after a half hour wait.
We have the bikes out and played some tennis today. Boy, was that weird after playing pickleball for the past few weeks. We looked like a couple of geeks for a while until we started figuring out how to hit a soft ball with a string racket that has a long handle. We miss pickleball already—not sure when we’ll get a chance to play again.
Stuart has volunteered to do some cooking at the weekly Burger Bash this coming Saturday so there will probably be good stories to tell about that. We’ve already attended one of our neighbourhood afternoon gatherings and met people from BC, Ontario and Pennsylvania . It’s all good.
