LIVING AT PALM CREEK

We just got our internet service connected today so we’ve been out of touch for a few days.  Our trip to Palm Creek in Casa Grande on Monday was short and uneventful—it only took an hour and 45 minutes from Buckeye.

Cotton Fields

It was nice to arrive early in the day as they were expecting about 180 units to be checking between that day and the next.  We had to wait in a short line and then got all the paperwork done and had our photos taken for our ID cards.  You need to wear them when you are using any of the resort facilities which isn’t a large imposition.  It’s also nice to have them when you are meeting other people as you can read their names and where they are from.

We were escorted to our site by a ranger in a golf cart who helps you back in if you need it, he does a site inspection and reads the power meter.  You’re on your own after that and we took our time setting up the trailer close to the concrete patio and making sure that it was as level as possible.  We have the nose of the RV facing south so we get the afternoon sun on the patio which will be nice when the weather is cooler in the next few weeks.  Right now, it is quite hot here with day time temperatures reaching 87 F (30.5 C) in the afternoon and today it is supposed to be up to 90 F.  Never had that kind of heat in the month of November before!!

We have neighbours right behind us from Alberta but no one else close to us.  This section of the resort is still fairly empty but will start filling up later on, probably in December or January.  Lots of people like to be “at home” for Christmas so some of them have brought their RV’s here and will fly back to wherever they live and return after Christmas.  Our neighbours are leaving on December 1 to return to Calgary for the month so we will have more privacy while they are gone.

On Monday afternoon (our first day here), there was a major leak in the water line for our section of the park so they had to shut the water off for the rest of the day.  We filled our fresh water tank up and used that until they got the line fixed by noon on Tuesday.  Here are some photos of the event:

We are enjoying the warm weather and will be spending time at the swimming pool in the afternoons.  We ride our bikes over there and then in the evenings, we walk to the main building to play a couple of games of billiards.  It’s not busy around here yet so we are taking advantage of having first choice at whatever we want to do.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
