The morning temperature in Wells wasn’t so bad after, just a cool 22 F (-5 C) and no clouds in sight. We didn’t waste any time getting ready to head out and were on the road at 8 a.m.
There were construction zones along the Great Basin Highway (93) and we had to wait about 10 minutes at each of them. It wasn’t a big deal but the traffic bunched up and then it took a while for everyone to jockey into their travelling positions. We fuelled up in Ely , NV which is the highest elevation on our route and not long after that, it started getting warmer.
We really enjoy the drive south on Highway 318 and sometimes it seems like we are the only ones out on the road. We shared the driving and made good time. We got through Las Vegas before rush hour and arrived in Boulder City at 3:30. It was our longest towing day ever for a distance of 662 km and after 4 days of driving we are about 2000 km from Grand Forks .
We checked into the Canyon Trail RV Park where we stayed last spring and it’s a nice stopping place after you’ve been on the road for a few days. The temperature was up to 66 F (19 C) when we arrived and it felt so good to have the sunshine and warmth.
We are staying for 3 nights and are planning to move on to a place called Buckeye, on the southwest outskirts of Phoenix , for 2 nights.
We’ve talked to a few RV’ers along the way and they are heading in a few different directions, no one going to our destination yet. We met Alberta people today who are heading back there after a 2 week vacation in Phoenix . Brrrr!! We’re thankful to be heading south.
