We left Fruitland , ID this morning at 9:15 and the weather was cloudy and then very rainy through Boise . They are still working on the interstate in that area and we remembered driving in the rain on that same stretch of highway last March. We don’t have any desire to spend time in Boise . The rain stopped south of the city and it was cloudy but dry all the way to the Twin Falls area. We took US highway 30 from Bliss to Buhl where it joins US 93 to Jackpot, NV. It was a great road, not much traffic, very scenic and we bypassed Twin Falls completely. Here’s a photo of one of the Thousand Springs along the drive.
Earlier in the day, we decided that we had enough time and fuel to drive to Wells, NV which is an hour and a half south of Jackpot. As we headed towards Jackpot, there was a dark cloud ahead of us and it unceremoniously dropped snow on us, the road, the cows and the fields. The temperature was just at freezing so the snow wasn’t sticking to the pavement but it did look ugly.
We continued on to Wells and drove through a few more snow storms and then just after we checked in to the RV park, it started snowing and blowing like crazy. We sat in the truck for a while and finally got out to set up for the night. We managed to get the last available site in this RV park but there were other parks in town that had vacant sites.
Our usual routine is to get the RV set up and then head out for fuel and groceries (if necessary) and check out the town. Wells is okay for an overnight stop, certainly not a destination at this time of year. We are hunkered down inside now with the heaters on and wearing our woollies. It’s supposed to drop to 20 F (-7 C) tonight and then be clear and sunny tomorrow. We’ve decided to drive all the way to Boulder City , NV tomorrow and get away from the cold stuff.
