FIRST FROST

Okay, okay, I’m late posting the blog this week.  I had good intentions of getting it done right after breakfast today but then we were invited to go do some maintenance work at the church.  I ended up painting 2 metal girders for holding spotlights and didn’t get the job done until 2 p.m.  I enjoy painting so it was a good task for me.  The guys were moving cabinets and replacing light bulbs in the high ceilings.

The weather has been the most remarkable topic this past week.  We had a couple of days of unusually heavy rain for this area and it was cool and cloudy until Tuesday evening when it cleared off.  We woke up to frost on parts of the lawn and the deck chairs were very white.  Yikes!!  It’s way too early for that nonsense.  It wasn’t a heavy frost so it didn’t kill the flowers on the deck, but I moved them close to the house in case it got cold again overnight—and it did.

The last day of summer was totally sunny (not a cloud in the sky) and very warm so we took advantage of being outside in shorts again.  I tackled my last outdoor painting job of the season and put stain on the basement window wells and on the base that supports the hot tub.  As usual, before and after photos:

Stuart also did some painting.  He spray painted the shop door which looked quite weathered.  We didn’t get photos of that but he’s okay with it as he plans to do more work on the door next year.  He was busy this week building a keyboard tray for the computer desk in the trailer and got it built, stained and sealed and mounted in the trailer.  It looks great and it will be much more comfortable to have the keyboard at a lower height.  Remember those ergonomics!!

The other creative project that Stuart did this week was to invent and built 2 trailer slide stabilizers.  They are like vertical jacks that you put under the slide-out frame to support some of the weight of the slide.  The big slide with the sofa and dining table and chairs is very heavy and it will be good to have it supported from below when we are parked in one place for a long time.

Hey, it’s not that long before we plan to head south for the winter and we’ll get to have 2 Thanksgivings this year.  Double the turkey – yay!!!

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
