WEDDING WEEK

August 6/10

The big event for this past week was attending Stuart’s son’s wedding on August 3, held at the Simon Fraser University alumni centre.  We drove to the Lower Mainland on Saturday in the midst of the busy BC Day weekend traffic and were glad that the heaviest traffic was heading opposite to us.  It had been years since we drove on the Hope-Princeton highway and we did enjoy seeing that area again.  A lot has changed over the years and there are some lovely views.

We visited with family and friends from Saturday to Monday and attended a barbecue at the bride’s aunt’s house in Port Moody.  It was nice to me her family and we had a lot of laughs as we got to know each other.  It wasn’t a formal dress rehearsal but they did do a mock up session on the back lawn after supper.  Here are a couple of photos of the practice run.

How do you like the bride’s veil?

The wedding was at 4 p.m. at SFU and everyone found the right location after some driving around.  It isn’t complicated if you follow the directions, but there is more than one way to approach the campus.  There were about 60 people at the wedding; friends and family who traveled from Prince George, Williams Lake, Grand Forks, Los Angeles and those from the Lower Mainland area.

The bride, Lisa, and groom, Christoph, had a lovely wedding and it all went without a hitch.  Here are photos.

The reception afterwards was great with good food, a beautiful setting, interesting speeches and toasts to the newlyweds.  In addition to those who had prepared speeches ahead of time, many people came up to the open mike and had nice stories to tell about both Christoph and Lisa.  The evening wrapped up at a decent hour as the newlyweds were scheduled to take a 6 a.m. flight to New York for their honeymoon.

We drove home the next day and took the road from Coquitlam through Mission and Agassiz to Hope.  That is always a less busy route and we enjoyed the change of scenery.  We arrived at home around 3:30 on Wednesday afternoon and it was a delight to come home.  Everything was fine here and we are looking forward to not traveling for a couple of weeks.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
