July 29/10
Well, we made our trip to Kelowna last Friday as planned and did some shopping for drapes and curtain rods before picking up the trailer at Kelowna Truck and RV. We restricted ourselves to 2 drapery places and chose the most suitable products from what they had. Our choice of fabric and colours was good and we are now all done with adding decorative items to the upstairs.
Master bedroom drapes:
The warranty work on the trailer wasn’t quite complete when we arrived after lunch to pick it up, but they did get it all done while we were there. We headed out for home just before 3 and drove south through the Okanagan Valley to Osoyoos and then home on highway 3. Lots of tourist traffic on the roads and tourists everywhere, especially in Oliver and Osoyoos. We are glad that we didn’t choose to purchase a house there. The tow up the Anarchist Summit from Osoyoos was steep with plenty of switchbacks and the truck handled it well enough, but it sure was a long climb. Then there was the big drop down the other side, again with switchbacks to Rock Creek so overall, it was one of the more “technical” tows that we’ve had.
The next few days were devoted to washing the trailer, lawn mowing and fertilizing, general yard work, putting up the drapes and patching small holes in the drywall in all the rooms. The previous owners have 4 kids so there were plenty of nicks in the walls and especially tiny holes in the walls where everyone had used push pins to put up pictures or artwork. Here are a couple of photos of some patched areas:
On Tuesday, our heat pump unit was replaced and the fellow was here for about 3 hours doing the installation. Boy, it sure is nice to have air conditioning again. It has been quite hot here for the past week with temperatures hitting the mid-thirties every day. The unit was replaced under warranty so no additional costs to us.
Yesterday, I took the trailer out for a practice drive around the streets of Grand Forks . I am scheduled to have my road test for towing a trailer over 4,600 kg on August 10 and need to work on the “in” town experience as opposed to towing on the highway. It all went well and I even did the coupling and uncoupling myself with Stuart’s supervision. I’ll be glad when the test is over, though.
Today, Stuart has taken out the cat door that was in the back door of the house.
We don’t plan to get a cat in the near future and wanted to seal off the “hole” in a more attractive way. He modified it so that it is solid and here is what it looks like now:
We still have time before supper every day for front porch sitting and are enjoying the good life.
