What a treat to have a week with ordinary activities and no really big projects or events going on. We spent some time working on the gravel shoulders of the driveway, smoothing out sections and adding some rock to the steeper areas. It sure looks good and is curing well in this warm weather. We also worked on the trailer parking area by the shop, levelling it out and ensuring that the transition from the asphalt to the gravel area was firm enough so we wouldn’t “squash” the edge of the asphalt. The trailer is back in its proper place now in the shade of the shop.
On Tuesday, we went to Castlegar to bottle wine that we had started at Wine Kitz in June. The bottling station there was simple and very efficient so we had 2 batches of wine (60 bottles) all done in less than an hour. The lady there was really friendly and helpful and we had an enjoyable time. We met friends for lunch after that and also had a really good visit. Of course, the trip to Castlegar included a stop at Canadian Tire for those essentials we just can’t get locally.
Our only small project this week was landscaping around the top of the septic tank to make the area look more attractive. It only took a couple of hours and we used materials that we already had. Here are the before, during and after photos:
Living in a small town can have unexpected and pleasant surprises. For example, Stuart did some difficult cutting with the table saw and needed to get the carbide blade sharpened or replace it at a cost of about $70. There is a local fellow who sharpens blades at his house so we took it there and got it sharpened for $12. He had it done a couple of hours after we dropped it off. How’s that for excellent service?
Here's an idea... you could get little miniature Japanese gazebos to place on top of the green circles of the protruding tank... then it will be invisible and even pretty.
