TIME TO WRAP IT UP

It’s been a good summer, not as hot as usual but still great for gardening and outdoor activities.  We golfed as much as we wanted, took the motorcycle out a few times and continued with small projects and gardening.

FIRST CROP OF PEACHES

In August, we had friends from Arizona visit for a few days and we were able to show them around the area.  We went for a hike on a section of the Trans Canada Trail overlooking Christina Lake and they were impressed with the view.

It was a good growing season and the weather was perfect for peas.  Ours grew over 2 metres tall and produced for quite a few weeks.

The biggest success was my crop of tomatillos.  They were the first to sprout in the greenhouse and then they grew strong all summer requiring very little maintenance.  We used them for salads, stir frys and made salsa verde.  A definite repeat for next year.

The butternuts were slow starting but then flourished to the point where I had to cut them back as there were too many squashes.  I harvested them a few days ago and had 25 plus a few that fell off the vines early.

The green bell and Anaheim peppers were also a huge success, way too many for us and our friends.  Earlier this week, I harvested the remaining crop and gave 22.5 lbs of peppers to the local food bank.

It cooled off in September and we are now finished with the garden and starting to prepare for winter.  We’ll follow our annual list of things to do and enjoy the process by completing a few tasks every day.  This year, we are leaving a week early than usual for Arizona, targeting Oct 22 for departure.  Now that we own a lot there, we can arrive and leave any time we want.

I started writing this blog 10 years ago when we first headed out on our RV adventures after retirement and it’s been fun to share our lives with our viewers.  However, it’s time to give it a rest so I won’t be posting anything new in the near future.  If exciting things start to happen, I may post again.  Thanks for following us on the journey.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
