TRIP TO ARIZONA

We left home on Oct 29 and we were third in line for the US border crossing at 8 a.m.  The agent asked us 3 basic questions and we were on our way after about 30 seconds.  The easiest crossing ever!!

We drove south to Spokane, then through Coeur d’Alene heading east on I-90.  The weather was cool and wet on the 4th of July and Lookout passes and then dried out.

One more snow/sleet shower south of Butte, Mt on I-15 heading south.

Day 2 was from Dillon, Mt to Cedar City, Ut and we did get an early start with a -2 Celsius temperature.  It got down to -10 along the way. Cedar City was cool with a nasty wind so we were glad to get going again on Day 3.

This time we took a secondary road (89A) east of St. George, Ut and drove north of the Grand Canyon.  We were about 30 miles away from the north rim so we couldn’t see much in that direction.  The road climbed up into a ponderosa pine forest and then switch backed down into a beautiful valley.

We drove along the Vermillion Cliffs for quite a while and saw some interesting structures and rock formations.

We crossed the Marble Canyon bridge that spans the Colorado River quite a distance before it flows through the Grand Canyon.

The rest of the trip was still scenic through Flagstaff, Az and then south on I-17 towards Phoenix.  We turned off to Surprise before reaching populated areas.

We spent that night at a hotel in Surprise and headed over to our lot early on Nov 1.  The RV faired well over the summer, still water in the buckets inside.  Better than the times we stored it under the big aluminum roofs.

It’s been a busy 2 days and we are mostly unpacked and settled in.  Time to sit back and take a deep breath.  What a blessing to be here in the sunshine with a temperature of 22 degrees this afternoon.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
