SECOND SATURDAY AT HOPE HOUSE

We attended our final Second Saturday volunteer event for the season and worked at Hope House near downtown Phoenix.  It is a wonderful old house built in 1870 that provides housing and educational support for young women as well as an urban farm on the property.  Best if you read the brief description on the website:

The tasks for the morning were to paint the lower exterior of the house, put in fence posts for a gate, clean up the yard and garden and start planting.  We were on the garden crew and we able to pull up weeds, remove mulch, move dirt and perform general clean up.  We let others do the tilling of the soil and the planting as it was new to them but regular work for us.  It was a great morning, not too warm and very rewarding.

We didn’t get many photos due to technical issues with the camera (low battery!!)

And for an economic difference between British Columbia and Arizona, here’s what $16.11 USD will buy at a grocery store called Food City (FYI that is 7.5 lbs of chicken leg meat and a 2.5 lb Papaya):

What would this cost in BC?

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
