PROJECTS INSIDE AND OUT

A few years ago, we noticed a separation between drywall sheets in the dining room to kitchen ceiling.  It never got larger and was not very noticeable so we left it alone until this year.  Stuart did the repair himself by taping over the long crack with a fiberglass drywall tape and then applying multiple layers of drywall compound.

To make the job easier, he built a scaffold to stand on rather than climbing up and down ladders.  Smart!!

He also used a damp sponge technique that he has developed to smooth out the mud rather than using sandpaper so there wasn’t much of a mess.  After it was done, he painted that area of the ceiling and blended it in to the rest.  He didn’t want to paint the ceiling in the entire kitchen, dining room and living room so this worked well. The process took about a week as he had to wait for the “mud” to dry in between coats. So far, no one else has even noticed where the crack was.

Out in the shop, Stuart unpacked our old stereo system that we’ve been storing since we lived in Kamloops and checked out the components.  He was able to use the receiver and a pre-amp to build a very good sound system in the shop.  He mounted 3 speakers left over from the home theatre system around the room and set up the old sub-woofer near the receiver.

Of course, he had to build shelves which always makes him happy.  He also ordered and installed 2 LED shop lights and moved 2 pot lights and greatly improved the visibility in the centre of the shop.

My projects have mostly been tending the garden and transforming the shrubbery area.  I added 2 triangular sections for flowers near the red maple in the corner and have since planted lupines in one of them.  I’ve been growing the lupines from seed in pots on the front porch and they were ready for fall planting.  I had success with growing a wild lupine and look forward to more of them.

I have another project on the go but will wait until it is completed before sharing it.  The garden is still going and we’ve been reaping the benefits of our labour.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
