We spent 3 days at Crawford Bay on Kootenay Lake last week
and had a wonderful time. The weather
was a mix of sun and clouds the first 2 days and then some rain showers on the
third day.
The main ferry, the Osprey 2000, from Balfour to Crawford
Bay was being serviced this week so we had to wait for the next sailing time
for the smaller ferry. The Osprey 2000
was getting a new prop and we watched them haul it onto the ferry but never saw
them unload it. It is huge.
We launched our boat at the Fish Hawk Bay marina and were
able to leave it moored in a slip there for the whole time. That made it nice and easy. We fished on the first and second days and
had to travel up and down the bay and around the point to find fish with the
sonar. Then when we found them, they
weren’t interested in any of the lures that we offered including the juicy
worms from our garden. With the weather
being so unsettled, the fish get a bit spooky.
However, we had fun being out on the water with such beautiful scenery.
Our accommodation was a woodland cabin on the same property
as the historic Wedgewood Estate that is 102 years old.
There were 2 cabins for rent and we were able
to get the 2 bedroom one for the same price as the 1 bedroom cabin.
As you can see, the setting was very beautiful, private and
peaceful. We used the barbecue on the
front deck a couple of times and were able to sit out there to read and enjoy
the surroundings. No mosquitoes which
was a blessing.
My brother wasn’t home in Creston while we were on this
trip so we didn’t get together with him this time. However, we drove down that way and stopped
at a few of my favourite beach and fishing spots on both Duck and Kootenay
Lakes. This one is the very best with
all the smooth pebbles that form the beach.
All in all, it was a great trip but it’s always nice to be
home again.
