NO PROJECT IS TOO SMALL

Well, you know how Stuart likes to keep busy with fixing and making things and he continues to do that here.  As I mentioned, we are filling the 2.5 gallon water jugs at the water dispenser and then filling the gallon jugs at home as needed to have in the RV.  Holding the gallon jug under the big jug spout seemed like a process that needed refinement so Stuart built a water jug filling stand.  We set the big jug on the stand on the counter, position the gallon jug below it and open up the tap to fill.  That way, you can wander away for a few minutes and don’t get a sore arm!!

We've had the wooden stairs for the RV for quite a few years and really appreciate their stability.  This year, we decided that a railing along one side of the stairs would be very useful and much safer.  So Stuart made his drawings, bought the 2 by 4’s at Home Depot and started on the railing.  Once he had everything measured out, it was time to figure out how to cut the boards neatly.  No power tools other than a drill down here!!  Down the street, there was a contractor building steps and a small patio for a park model and he had a cut off saw.  Stuart talked to him and arranged for the guy to cut the marked boards with his saw and so he got the job done.

Next, he painted the boards and then built the railing.  He had to set it into the edge of the stairs for a proper fit--more sawing but just hand work this time.  After the railing was lag bolted in place, he filled the screw holes and painted over them for a very professional finish.

The faucet for the bathroom sink in the RV has been squeeking for a long time and no amount of lubrication was making it quiet.  It was made of a light weight plastic that wasn’t standing up to regular use and some of the finish was wearing off, especially on the drain plug.  Stuart ordered a new faucet online and installed it a couple of days ago.  Very nice.

The last project was a Mr. Fix It one.  At the recycle station, there are always old printers, electronics, etc. in one box and Stuart scopes them out when we do our recycle trips.  He found a paper shredder that was in good condition but the power cord was cut off.  He brought it home, took it apart, removed and bypassed the wiring on an internal switch that didn’t work and attached a new cord.  Now we have an excellent cross cut shredder, even better than the one at home.

We have done most of our Christmas shopping online this year and that is always an adventure, especially for me.  I ordered an item for Stuart on eBay that was to be delivered on Dec 10.  Well, it didn’t arrive on that date so I waited a day and then sent a note to the supplier asking if it was shipped yet and who the carrier would be.  A few days later there was a response saying they were having trouble with receiving e-mails but no response to my question.  I finally had to lodge my complaint with eBay and this morning, I found out that the item would not be shipped and that my money was refunded.  Great to get the money back but now what??  I quickly went online and ordered another one and it should be delivered on Dec 24.  That’s cutting it close!!

We’ve been to the movies twice to see Spectre and Hunger Games Mockingjay part 2.  Both were good and we enjoyed them.  Yesterday at the theatre, there was a long line up in the early afternoon for the Star Wars movie.  Wonder how long some of those kids were camped out there?

My knee is slowly improving and I am going to physiotherapy here.  They have a much more aggressive approach than at home and it’s been a struggle to keep up with it.  I continue to persevere.

We have some outside Christmas decorations up and will do the inside stuff in a few days.  Both of us prefer to keep it simple and fresh by not having the decorations up for too long.  To each his own.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all!!

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
