GOLF CART BATTERIES

Last winter, we bought a used golf cart and it is a wonderful asset here at Happy Trails.  We can easily get around to all the activities, especially when we have lots of things to carry.  I enjoy having it to get to the fitness room, the swimming pool and the hot tubs as I can’t walk those distances yet.

This year we have been getting drinking water from a machine at a neighbourhood centre and having the golf cart to carry the 2.5 gallon water jugs is great.  Water costs 25 cents a gallon and it is much nicer to drink than the double filtered water in our RV.

This season, however, we noticed that the golf cart was slower than normal and that we had to charge up the batteries every 3 days.  Not a good thing as we didn’t want to have it “die” somewhere and leave us stranded.  There is a ‘Battery Guy” company that comes to the park 3 days a week and Stuart asked them to stop by our lot to assess our batteries.  They determined that the batteries were about 7 or 8 years old so they were definitely at the end of their expected life span.

We arranged to have the Battery Guys come and put in a set of new 6 volt batteries the next week.  The job took about half an hour and was very interesting to watch.  They lifted the top off the golf cart, pulled out the old batteries (6 in total), wire brushed and painted the frame that holds the batteries.  Next, they put in the new batteries and hooked them together with clean cables.

Now the cart runs well and can get up to speed like other carts in the park.  We’ve had the new batteries for a week and still haven’t had to charge it up again.  Great!  Well worth doing.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
