TRAVELLING AGAIN

We made our third and final trip to Calgary for my brother’s second eye surgery on Sept 14 returning on the 17th.  The surgery went well and it was an interesting stay in the city.  This time, we booked a two bedroom condo for 3 nights so it was more comfortable than a hotel room and we were able to prepare simple meals there rather than going out to restaurants.  It was a bit more complicated for check-in, though.  We had to drive to a lock box in downtown Calgary to get the keys and parking pass and then go to the condo which was in the vicinity of the hospital.

DOWNTOWN CALGARY

Then on check out, we had to strip the beds, wash the dishes and leave the unit reasonably clean.  Again, we had to drop the keys into a lock box which was at the on the condo property.  It all worked out well and it was cheaper than a hotel room for the 3 nights.

SNOW IN THE MOUNTAINS - WEST ALBERTA

We had my brother stay with us for about 10 days and fortunately this time, he didn’t have to keep a face down position and was able to get outside and walk around a bit.  We took him to Penticton for his one week post-op check-up which went well and returned him to Creston on Saturday. We drove back through the US for a different perspective and picked up a few groceries.  Even with the low Canadian dollar, it is still cheaper to buy dairy products, some groceries and fuel in the US.

We drove through parts of the Rock Creek fire on our way to Penticton and took some photos of the burned area near highway 3.  Most of the fire seemed to be north of that point along highway 33.

Stuart bought a paint sprayer a while ago and stained the south and east fences.  He used an old borrowed sprayer for one section and that took him quite a few hours and he did it over two days.  With the new sprayer, he did the same length of fence in about 2 hours.  It is a great machine, easy to use and easy to clean up.  He has used it at the church to paint some sound board panels and is impressed with the way it handles paint, even better than it handles stain.

The garden is slowing down, still some beans, carrots, peppers and tomatoes although they are not ripening very quickly.  We have been close to frost a couple of nights so time is running out for them.  The days are sunny and warm, a beautiful fall season with the leaves changing colour.

My knee is not doing well at all and I will be seeing an orthopaedic surgeon this week.  It sure has been a struggle this year.  Trusting God for healing.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
