A QUICK TRIP TO CALGARY

Where did the last few weeks go?  We did take the boat out a few weeks ago and had a wonderful few hours on the lake.  There was no one else at the boat launch and we only saw 3 or 4 boats on the lake in the time that we were out.  The new fish finder is great and it did find fish for us.  We each caught a fairly big fish and got them to the boat where we “involuntarily” released them.  Fishing with barbless hooks gives the fish more chances to get away.  We had fun, though.

The garden is doing well for the most part even though we had a week of unsettled weather (thunderstorms and hail) and one and a half rainy days.  The weeds sprouted up quickly and Stuart had to till between the rows to get rid of them.  The return to sunshine and warm weather will result in faster growth now and I expect to have roses blooming within a few days.

We made a quick trip to Calgary on May 31 and returned on June 1.  My brother who lives in Creston needed to see an eye surgeon in Calgary so we picked him up on Sunday, went to the appointment early Monday morning and got home by 8:30 Monday night.  We wanted to keep it quick as he will have to go back for his eye surgery early in July and there will be follow-up appointments after that.

We drove to Calgary on the Crowsnest Highway 3 and stopped for lunch in Fernie.

 THE FRANK SLIDE AREA

The traffic was fairly light and once we got into Alberta, everyone else speeded up a lot.  We took highway 22 north from highway 3 and then east to Nanton where we joined the main highway 2 north through High River to Calgary.

On the way back, we drove through Canmore and Banff, took highway 93 through Kootenay National Park to Radium Hot Springs and then south through Invermere to Cranbrook and then home the usual way.  That was a beautiful route to take and we got excellent gas mileage—48 miles per gallon in our little car.

We’re staying current with our yard work and haven’t started any new projects lately.  We hope to take the boat out this week again while the weather is good.  My knee is doing better although I am not up to full speed yet.  However, we are making the most of every day.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
