BOARDWALK

We have been working on the areas by the new fence where we planted the fruit trees.  We added some grasses and other plants that we had elsewhere that were putting up shoots as well as some newly purchased perennial flowers and a burning bush which turns red in the fall.  As we’ve been getting used to going through the new gate and around the fence, we determined that we needed a walkway along one section so we would have a more direct route to the yard and garden.  We debated about what material to use for the walkway and decided to use 1 by 4 pine trim end boards from our other fence projects.  The design is a basic boardwalk with the boards attached to 2 by 4’s under the entire length.

Stuart put the supports together and attached all the boards while I levelled the ground where the boardwalk would sit.

He built it in the shop all as one unit for a total length of about 25 feet and bevelled both ends to sit flush against the angled landscape ties.

The boardwalk was a bit heavy to move around but we got it up on supports so I could stain the boards.

Once that was done, we put it in place on top of landscape fabric so the weeds won’t grow through it.

We put bark mulch on both sides of it and will continue with bark mulch over the whole area.  We’ll need to get another load of mulch one of these days to finish off both areas.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
