WHERE DOES THE TIME GO?

The bluebirds in our bird house are having a busy time.  The female laid 5 eggs that were light blue in colour and very symmetrical.  Here’s a photo:

The eggs hatched a few days ago and the parents have been feeding them non-stop in the mornings and evenings.  I think the little ones sleep during the middle of the day.  That’s when we checked and here’s what they look like:

We made a trip to the Lower Mainland to visit family a week ago and it was a good trip.  We were able to spend time with everyone and even had the opportunity to take the Sky Train to downtown Vancouver and walk around Yaletown and the waterfront.  It is so different there compared to 35 years ago when that part of downtown was quite grubby.  We also went out for Greek food and had a great feast of lamb and moussaka.  We don’t cook Greek food at home so it is always a special treat for us when we go out.

We drove to the Lower Mainland on highway 3, which includes the Hope-Princeton through Manning Park, but decided to take highway 20, the North Cascade highway through Washington on the way back.

It was a longer trip (10 hours compared to 7 hours) but was well worth it for the scenery.  The road winds up the Skagit River valley to 3 dams at the upper elevation and then heads across more mountains through Winthrop (a western theme town) and then to Omak.

We stopped in Omak for fuel and groceries and then took the highway up to Osoyoos and home.

It was nice to get away for a few days and then as always, nice to be home again.  The garden is finally flourishing and we've been eating radishes, lettuce and fresh herbs.  My roses are coming into bloom and I really enjoying having fragrant buds in the house every day.

We've been playing some golf and pickleball and working on the fence.  The next blog will be the fence story.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
