COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS

Well, here we are near the end of the winter season in Arizona and it’s time to get ready for our trip home.  We've been sticking to our regular routine for most of the week but have started a few of the packing up tasks.  We always make a “To Do” list that keeps us on track and focused.  The weather was good all week with temperatures in the high 20’s and today has just maxed out at 30.  There has been thin cloud cover most of the time so it hasn't felt too warm at all.  Good for pickleball as you don’t get the sun in your eyes quite as much.

Spring has definitely arrived here with trees leafing out, birds singing early in the morning and the cacti are starting to bloom.  They are amazing when they produce beautiful blossoms but some of them only last for one day.

Tomorrow afternoon we are going to the Easter service at our church so that we can have more preparation time on Sunday.  The church is having 5 services, 2 on Saturday and 3 on Sunday morning and it will be interesting to see how many attend in the afternoon.

On Sunday, our neighbourhood gang is having an Easter brunch and we’ll be participating in that as well.  So much to do and not much time left.

This year, we are leaving our trailer in storage here on the lot and that was a big decision for us.  It will be well protected under the full aluminum roof and one of our neighbours who lives here year round will check it for us.  In the past, we've winterized our RV’s and this time we have to summerize it.  That means leaving some water in all the holding tanks and putting buckets of water inside to increase the humidity.  It will be interesting to see how much water evaporates.

So our drive home will be very different without towing the trailer.  We plan to take a secondary road around the north side of the Grand Canyon and then make our way past Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks in Utah to I-15.  Then it’s back on the same route we took in October but the weather should be a lot nicer this time.

It’s been a great winter here at Happy Trails and we will enjoy returning next fall.  But for now, we’re excited to get on the road and head north.  As Dorothy said many times “There’s no place like home!”

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
